Radium Group Unveils Taiwan’s First AI Smart Reclaimed Water Demonstration Plant

Creating a New Benchmark for Water Circularity and Urban Sustainability

Listed company Radium Group (2547 TW) has officially launched the water resource recycling and reclaimed water system in the northern part of Taoyuan City through its subsidiaries, Rih Ding Water and Bao Ding Reclaimed Water. This marks a new milestone for Taiwan in the fields of AI-powered smart water management and the circular economy. Rih Ding Water and Bao Ding Reclaimed Water have attracted attention from international professional organizations in Japan and the United States, such as the CEO of the Water Resources Foundation, the President of the American Water Works Association, along with representatives from the Taoyuan City Water Bureau, have made specific visits to exchange views and express appreciation. This signifies that Rih Ding and Bao Ding's recycling and reclaimed water technologies have reached the international stage, demonstrating urban resilience and net-zero governance capabilities, and aiming to play the role of a smart water resource demonstration center in Asia.

AI Smart Water Management: Technology Reinforcing Urban Resilience

Radium Group has proactively advanced its digital transformation in recent years, not only strengthening its core businesses but also leveraging AI-driven resource circularity and water reclamation as a new engine for long-term growth. As a front-end pioneer in Taiwan’s reclaimed water supply chain, Rih Ding Water integrates Generative AI, deep learning image recognition (Segment Anything Model, SAM), and Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) to overcome conventional barriers in water-quality imaging. This enables real-time monitoring and predictive alerts for water anomalies.

Using time-series predictive analytics, Rih Ding Water can detect and forecast variations in foam and water quality, while its knowledge-based decision platform enhances management efficiency and risk control.

Amid the rapid growth of the global smart water market, Rih Ding and Bao Ding are implementing Industry 4.0 automation, IoT systems, cloud-based data lakes, and AutoML to continuously improve sewage treatment and reclaimed water performance. Together, they have built Taiwan’s first AI-integrated smart reclaimed water demonstration plant. The facility enhances reclaimed water quality, increases supply flexibility, and showcases the maturity of Taiwan’s smart water ecosystem to international experts.

ESG Sustainability Park:  A Circular Model of Wind, Solar, Water, and Agriculture

Aligned with Radium Group’s ESG Campus vision, Rih Ding Water and Bao Ding Reclaimed Water have established three major green-energy systems, including biogas power generation, solar photovoltaics, and micro-hydropower at the Taoyuan Northern District Water Resource Recovery Center. Together, these systems are expected to produce 870,000 kWh of green electricity annually to support plant operations and surrounding facilities.

Within the campus, a smart hydroponic farm, greenhouse cultivation zone, and irrigation system utilize reclaimed water to grow lettuce, romaine, cherry tomatoes, and other crops. Community volunteers, residents, and academic experts in energy and water resources will be invited to participate, jointly promoting a “triple-sustainability model” of energy, water, and food.

Green Buildings and Public Spaces:  A Model of Urban Coexistence

Under the policy planning of the central government and the Taoyuan City Government, Bao Ding Reclaimed Water has built the Taoyuan North District reclaimed water plant, which is the first and largest of its kind in northern Taiwan. Upon completion of all three phases in the future, daily supply capacity will reach 110,000 CMD, significantly reducing pressure on the Shimen Reservoir and enhancing northern Taiwan’s water-supply resilience.

The facility has received both Green Building and Intelligent Building certifications. Featuring multi-layer ecological landscaping, permeable pavements, energy-efficient building envelopes, and comprehensive water-saving systems, the plant demonstrates environmental stewardship and energy efficiency. The Clear Water Park within the campus will be developed into a public water-education and leisure space, incorporating water-drop-shaped wind turbines, rooftop solar power, and treated-water micro-hydropower units. These elements form an integrated wind-solar-hydro green-energy system symbolizing the coexistence of urban development and natural environments. The plant has already attracted experts from Japan, the United States, and Korea, further supporting Taoyuan’s goal of becoming a benchmark city for reclaimed water utilization and elevating Taiwan’s international profile in sustainable water management.

Urban Micro-Reservoir:  Reliable Water Supply for Industry and Communities

Working in tandem with Rih Ding Water, Bao Ding Reclaimed Water is developing Taoyuan’s “urban micro-reservoir,” serving as the central node of the city’s industrial reclaimed water network. The goal is clear: ensure uninterrupted water supply for communities and continuous operations for industry. Reclaimed water not only supports the cooling and process needs of high-tech and manufacturing sectors but can also be extended to agricultural irrigation in the future, enabling low-carbon rice farming and eco-friendly agricultural practices. This expands the scope of water circularity across industrial, ecological, and agricultural domains.

Looking Ahead

Radium Group will continue advancing AI applications across its core business sectors, particularly in smart water resource management, by deploying intelligent expert systems, accelerating plant automation and unmanned operations. The Group is also expanding business into circular economy and smart green building markets, aiming to make reclaimed water not merely a utility, but a sustainable infrastructure where technology and nature coexist in harmony.
