Nangang Bus Station: Taipei’s New Eastern Transportation Gateway
The opening of the Nangang Bus Station East Terminal represents a key transportation component of Taipei’s Eastern District Gateway Development Plan.
The Taipei City Government’s vision for the Nangang Bus Station BOT project is centered on integrating Taiwan Railways, Taiwan High Speed Rail and Taipei Metro, creating a major transportation hub connecting Taipei with Keelung, Yilan and the Hualien–Taitung region.
Shin Kong Life Insurance was selected as the preferred applicant for the Nangang Bus Station BOT project and is leveraging the asset management capabilities of the Shin Kong Group to advance the development.
The complex is designed with a third-floor pedestrian bridge connecting directly to Nangang Station, integrating the intercity bus network with Taiwan High Speed Rail, Taiwan Railways and the Taipei Metro Bannan Line. This creates a highly integrated transportation hub combining four major rail and transit systems with the national highway bus network.
Together with Taipei Bus Station, which serves as a major integrated transportation hub in western Taipei, Nangang Bus Station is expected to help establish a dual-core east-west transportation strategy for Great Taipei, linking the city’s mature western core with its rapidly developing eastern gateway.
Radium’s Strategic Vision: Building a Smart Dual-Core Transportation Network for Taipei
Radium expects the importance of Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) and the broader transit-oriented economy will continue to grow.
Taipei Bus Station and Nangang Bus Station are strategically located in the western and eastern parts of Taipei, respectively, with complementary roles in the city’s development.
Taipei Bus Station represents a mature and highly established transportation hub, backed by years of operational experience in intercity highway transportation and passenger services. Nangang, meanwhile, stands at the center of Taipei’s Eastern District Gateway Development Plan, integrating Taiwan Railways, Taiwan High Speed Rail, Taipei Metro, intercity highway buses, exhibition and convention facilities, biotechnology, software and commercial development.
This combination gives Nangang significant long-term potential as a new center of urban growth. Through Wan Da Tong’s professional operating capabilities, Radium intends to transfer the accumulated expertise of Taipei Bus Station into a new operating and service model for Nangang Bus Station, creating complementary operational capabilities between Taipei’s two major transportation nodes.
From a long-term corporate perspective, this is more than an expansion of transportation operations. It represents another step in Radium’s strategy to build businesses around transit-oriented development, smart transportation, long-term asset management and sustainable urban development.
Looking ahead, Radium plans to expand its capabilities in cross-disciplinary professional services and operational expertise, transforming accumulated experience into scalable business opportunities while contributing to the development of more sustainable cities and advancing the Group’s vision of “A green enterprise determined to uphold sustainability.”
